You are naturally magnetic — really! There’s a natural way about you that’s attractive to others, and in the world of marketing, this magnetism is your secret sauce. By tapping into it, you’ll attract clients easily.
Not sure how to do that? Here are four ways you can harness your innate magnetism.
1. Smile
At any gathering or event who do you gravitate to — the person who’s intensely studying their phone, or the person who returns your gaze with a smile? Smiling is like opening the door, and letting others know you’re available. Smiling is also infectious; remember the last time someone smiled at you? Chances are, you smiled back. Bonus! Smiling is an easy and natural thing to do.
Think of smiling as an invitation to engage, a “Come on in!” to those around you. Just as you’d invite your neighbor in for a glass of lemonade on a hot day, smiling is a cool drink of water that says, “You’re welcome here.” Get your smile working and see how quickly others respond in kind and want to learn more about you and your work.
2. Be Natural
The people around you are regular people doing the best they can with what they’ve got. Often this means comparing themselves to others and not measuring up, which causes them to act in ways that aren’t natural. This feels awkward to themselves and others.
Now imagine that person is you.
Presenting yourself in a way that’s not truly you is exhausting. Your natural self is far more compelling than the super marketer you might pretend to be, and allowing yourself to be truly you puts others at ease and helps them feel more comfortable. It also allows them to trust you, which makes them more likely to hire you. And as a bonus, it’s a much easier way to live! The more natural you are, the more business you’ll have — easy peasy.
3. Share
Yes, your work is important but… there’s more to you than that one aspect. Allowing others to get to know you a bit personally is good for business because people like to do business with people they know.
Feel into what seems like the right balance of sharing personal information vs. keeping things strictly business, and once you’re clear on your boundaries, start sharing! Have a new puppy? I’m sure your clients would love to see her. Creating a new product? Share a sneak preview of your development process. The more you let your guard down and share (within reason, of course), the more potential clients are able to relate to you and get a feel for what it would be like to work with you.
4. Host
A gathering is a great excuse to get people you know, and those you’d like to know, together. You can make your gathering festive by providing fun things to do that are aligned with your work and your personality, and it’s a great excuse to bring together people from different aspects of your life. As the host, you can use your natural way of being to connect, interact, and create.
And if you’re an introvert, don’t worry! Even the most introverted of introverts often surprise themselves with how naturally they bring people together, even if it’s just a few at a time. Find your groove and play host to those you’re interested in doing business with. Arrange the gathering in a way that showcases you and your work. Invite others to participate, and let the festivities begin.
Being yourself is an easy way to attract business, so have fun smiling, inviting, and welcoming clients to you using these four magnetic strategies.
