Ever have one of those days when you’re just not feelin’ it? You can’t seem to get yourself to do any marketing. The marketing you’re doing doesn’t feel inspiring. You’re not sure where to start to make things different. The thoughts swirling around in your head are making you suspect you might be a business fraud. Sounds like you’re not feeling the marketing love.

The good news is you can do something about it.

To minimize the days where you’re feeling out of sorts, marketing-wise, allow the following to serve as inspiration to help you feel the love again.

Figure out what inspires you generally.

Look at the things you enjoy doing: windsurfing, playing the piano, making things up? How can you apply these to your marketing? Perhaps you love windsurfing because it’s dynamic, which suggests you might do best with a marketing strategy that’s got some movement to it, such as live networking events. Piano playing might reveal a love for quieter activities, in which case building an online community might be your thing. If you’re good at making things up, you might consider writing or public speaking as your go-to activities. By reviewing the things you love doing in other parts of your life, you’re likely to see similarities you can translate into making your marketing easier.

Stick to just a few things.

Yes, even if it pains you. With so many options, though, how do you narrow it down? The trick to successful marketing is picking a few things (no more than three overall strategies) and doing them consistently. This allows you to become expert at that marketing technique, and for people to get to know and trust you in that context. Take a bit of time to review the techniques you’ve tried and maybe try out a few new ones, and see which ones feel the best for you, and are also effective in reaching your ideal clients. Then commit to using these techniques over and over. Going deeper into a few things works wonders.

Have a system and work it.

What’s that? You say you’re not a systematic person? You prefer to play the day by ear? If you’re not feeling the marketing love, it will not magically fit into the open spots of your day. Fear, resistance and procrastination will creep in and usurp your best intentions, which is why building a system, even a simple one, can be handy. You can think of this in several ways: scheduling a certain time of the day, week, or month to do tasks. Or maybe it’s a way of keeping track of your marketing activities that makes it more fun, such as a bullet journal, or Trello board. Whatever format you choose, pick something you can systematize to make your life easier.

Marketing your business doesn’t have to be drudgery. If you’re having a day where you’re not feelin’ it, stop, remember what inspires you, pick one thing to do, and work it into your system, and you’ll be feelin’ the love again in no time.
